Foresight Sovereignty Pledge

We’re kicking off a new chapter in our work: exploring the future of Africa through a lens that is rooted here.

Too much of what passes for foresight on the continent is still framed by outdated narratives of "development" and "governance"—concepts often imported wholesale from the Global North.

We’re choosing a different starting point. One that doesn’t assume Africa needs to be “developed,” but instead recognizes the energy, complexity, and momentum already unfolding across the continent.

As part of this effort, we’re grounding ourselves in a commitment we call the Foresight Sovereignty Pledge. It’s our internal compass—a way to stay accountable to the questions we ask, the research we conduct, and the stories we tell.

Because the truth is: many global institutions need the Global South to appear chaotic, fragile, and broken. It justifies their existence. It protects their power.

Foresight practitioners in the Global South have a responsibility to challenge that; for better or for worse.
